how we make our jewelry
Every piece of our jewelry is made by hand. We create unique beads for each creation. Occasionally we use glass beads or seed beads for accents or detail, but they are just there to compliment the main components.
Once we have all the beads prepared for the glaze firing, we have to load them in the kiln. We use bead trees, kiln furniture, and whatever creative tricks we can and it usually takes a day to get them loaded... When our beads are fired, we move to Liz's studio and design the pieces, carefully selecting each bead and chain or findings. Even though we have developed a few collections or families, each member of that collection is still unique and requires it's own design time.
We make our beads using porcelain paper clay. It is white, silky, and strong. Then they are bisque fired in the kiln. We underglaze, stain, and glaze each piece by hand, then individually wire most of them on the bead trees for the glaze fire.
